Born in Ebsdorf, Hanover, Germany, February 11, 1849. Emigrated to America arriving September 1, 1857, and settled near Elmhurst, Illinois.
June 21, 1872, he was united in marriage to Sophia Tonne.
William became one of the leading German-American citizens of Cook county, holding positions such as Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, Highway Commissioner, Township Treasurer, and School Director.
He served five terms, ten years as a representative in the State Legislature from 1890-1900. The Governor appointed him a member of the Board of Live Stock Commissioners. He was also vice president of Arlington Heights State Bank and an active member of the Lutheran church.
