She and her husband John came to the U.S. in 1899 and lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, before moving to Colorado in 1903. In 1904, they began farming at Bracewell, near Windsor. She had been a resident of Weld County for 60 years, and was the last charter member of the Evangelical Congregational Church in Windsor. Her husband died 51 years before her on the same date she died. Mrs. Klaus died at the Kenton Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the last two years.
She was survived by six children including sons: Henry of Greeley; Nicholas of Albany, Ore.; Jacob of Colorado Springs; and John of Portland, Ore.; and two daughters, Mrs. Annie Hettinger of Fort Collins and Mrs. Mary Held of Greeley; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
