The funeral of Mr Fred Berndt retired businessman of this city, who passed away at his home last Saturday following a prolonged illness, was held from the home and from St Paul's Lutheran church on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev Edw. H Ahlemeyer conducting the services. Burial was made in the Minden cemetery.

Mr Berndt was born in Pyritz Pommern, Germany, February 4, 1856. In the year 1874 he moved to Berlin, Germany, where he resided until he came to America in the year 1880.

He settled first near Juniata, Nebraska. In 1884 he was united in marriage with Miss Alvina Jacobitz, and in 1903, he moved to Minden with his family, where he lived until his death at the age of 75 years, three months and five days. He is survived by his wife and seven children, one son, Mr August Berndt, of this city and six daughters, Mrs L E Braun of Woolsey, South Dakota; Mrs John Werth and Mrs William Bang of Minden; Mrs H B Alsid of Omak, Washington; Mrs E H Larsen of Los Angeles, California and Mrs F W Otteson of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Mr C F W Berndt of Chicago, Illinois, a sister, Mrs P Einspahr of Juniata, Nebraska, fifteen grand children and many friends.

In early infancy Mr Berndt became a child of God, through baptism and remained true to his savior until the end. Gentle and courteous in disposition, honest and efficient in his business, a conscientious and loving parent and a friendly neighbor he set a splendid example of right living and was held in high respect by all of us.
