Woman Marked 98th Birthday, June 15
KENTON - Mrs. Caroline Willeke, 98, of 218 W. North-st, Hardin-co's oldest resident, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday in Hardin Memorial hospital after an illness of six months. She had been seriously ill four days.
A native of Marion-co, she had spent most of her life in the Kenton community. She celebrated her 98th birthday June 15. Mrs. Willeke was the oldest member of the St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church and a charter member of Washington Grange, Dola.
Her husband, Jacob H. Willeke, to whom she was married in 1872, died June 11, 1930.
Surviving are six sons, Philip F., Jacob N., and Lawrence, all of Washington-tp; Theodore, Kenton; Christopher, Alger, and Henry, Columbus; four daughters, Mrs. John S. Kern, Van Buren; Mrs. Lloyd Lease and Mrs. Fred Dirmeyer, Dola; Mrs. Grover Chamberlain, Taylor Creek-tp; 33 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
The body will remain in Schindewolf-Steiner funeral home until services at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. John's church. The Rev. Stanley Fritz will officiate assisted by the Rev. H. E. Pfister, Troy, formerly of Kenton. Burial will be in Grove cemetery.
