Dick was born in Center Township, the son of Glenn and Lillian (Kane) Roehl. He graduated from Orfordville High School and served in the U.S. Navy from March 4, 1953, to February 8, 1957. He married Susan Ware on October 14, 1961, in St. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Roehl in 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Margaret Roehl; and his half-brother, Spec Elwood John Roehl, who was killed while serving in the Vietnam War.
