The Minnesota Birth Index has Annie born May, 27, 1903 in Pike Creek Township, located between Flensburg and Little Falls, MN, with mother maiden name Wielinski. She born to Joseph Albert Rutz (1870-1937) & Anna Julianna Wielinski (1880-1934), and is listed later census with that family.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church records have Anna Rutz age 19, died in Chicago (date not listed) of bilateral palpugectory (how spelling appears, no such word found) and was buried on October 23, 1922. The 1905 and 1924 dates on Annie's gravestone, the same style as her parents Joseph and Anna Rutz, are obviously in error. The next Rutz death in these records was not until 1925, belonging to another family.

To add to the confusion, page 1 of the weekly Little Falls Herald of October 27, 1922, had the following: Miss Nettie Rutz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rutz of Flensburg, died Friday at the General hospital in Chicago following an operation. She was 19 years old. Miss Rutz had been employed in Chicago for some time. The remains were shipped here and the funeral was held at Sacred Heart Church, Flensburg, Monday morning at 10 o’clock, Rev. Renkosiak officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. However, no Annie or Nettie Rutz has been found in census records with a father Frank Rutz. Newspaper errors in death reports back then were fairly common.

It is likely Annie's gravestone was not erected until well after her death when memories had faded, explaining the birth and death year errors on Annie's gravestone.
