Charlie was born in Union County on Saturday, July 11, 1903, a son of the late Charles W. and Elizabeth "Bettie" Henderson Williamson, sharing his birthday with that of his father. He was a farmer and a member of Many Forks Baptist Church near Young Harris, GA.
I will always remember Uncle Charlie for his smile and his fun-loving personality. He dressed in jeans, a baseball cap, and running shoes, always looking very fit and debonair. As he grew older, he never lost that warm smile. He loved a good joke and the monthly gatherings of the Williamson family at the home of his nephew, Odie.
Besides his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Ann Brown Williamson, who died in 2002; a son, James Williamson; sister Etna Williamson Brown, and brothers Edward, Estes, John, Burl, and Gus Williamson. Uncle Charlie was the last son of this hard-working, pioneer family.
Surviving Charlie are his son Richard Williamson and wife Willa Mae of Gastonia, NC; son Carroll Williamson and wife Rachel of Blairsville; daughter-in-law Rebecca Williamson of Cramerton, NC; grandsons Tony Williamson and Ray Covington; granddaughters Dewanna Williamson and Karen Williamson; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 28, 2004 at 2 pm from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. R.L. Martin officiating. Special music was presented by Lavon Bennet. Pallbearers were Billy Williamson, Phil Williamson, Kenneth Davis, Gene Little, Sheldon Henderson, and Larry Williamson. Burial was in Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery.
Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville was entrusted by the family for the arrangements.
