RUSSELL – Eva (Milberger) Michaelis, 93, of Russell died Monday, March 7, 2011, at the Trego County Hospital in Wakeeney.
Eva was born Oct. 30, 1917, on the family farm southwest of Russell, the daughter of Henry B. and Mollie (Rein) Milberger. She grew up and attended school in Russell County.
Eva was married to Herbert J. Michaelis on Aug. 11, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Russell. Eva and Herbert were blessed with three daughters: Linda, Patricia and Barbara. Eva and Herbert made their home in Russell.
Eva was a devoted homemaker and mother. She worked as a sales clerk at Banker's Mercantile and also worked at the Russell Flower and Gift Shop. Eva was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. She played the organ for services for more than 37 years. She taught Sunday School and was a youth group leader.
Surviving family members include her husband of 64 years, Herbert, of the home; daughters, Linda Davis, and husband, Bob, of Lawrence; Patricia Michaelis of Topeka; Barbara Michaelis of Hays; and grandson, Steven Davis, and wife, Katie, great grandson, Landon, of Springdale, Ark., and many family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Martha Milberger and brother, Wesley B. Milberger.
The funeral service for Eva will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell with Pastor Terry McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials have been established with the KU Endowment Association, Dr. Pahwa's Parkinson Research and the Trinity United Methodist Church music program.
