Excerpts from the obituary in The Carroll Times, Carroll, Iowa May 14, 1908:
....Mr. and Mrs. Schupanitz went to Omaha to visit his nephews ....and died on Sunday. The remains were brought back to this city Monday afternoon and the funeral occurred yesterday forenoon from SS Peter and Paul's Catholic church, largely atteded by friends and neighbors from all over the county.
Departed was born in Austria-Hungary, July 17, 1833. He came to America 46 years ago and resided in Dubuque county. There he was married 45 years ago to Mary Pletchette, who survives him with the following children: Math. Schupanitz, who left for the west a number of years ago and cannot now be located; Susie, Mrs. John Gute, near Breda, Iowa; Maggie, Mrs. Conrad Munteferring, Parkson, S.D.; John, at the state hospital; Henry, Barbara - Mrs. George Schmidt, and Frank Jr., all of Carroll, Iowa.
Departed was a most kind and loving husband and father, an ever helpful neighbor and friend. He had not an enemy in the world. His christian family is the best attest of his good character and citzenship. He was faithful to his trust as a husband, father and citizen. Having borne his burden without complaint, and kissed the cross in humble faithfulness, we may confidently believe him happy with the blessed ones gone before and ask for divine consolation and peace for the living whose tears are falling on his grave. May their pain and sorrow give way to blessed resignation to the heavenly Father's will.
