Probably the oldest and one of the most esteemed residents of Brooke Township, passed peacefully to his reward last Thursday morning the 10th February 1921, when Mr. Andrew Lucas died in his 97th year, on the fann where he had spent the best part of his earthly career. Mr. Lucas was born in Lanark County in the year *1824* and moved to Brooke about 70 years ago. On the 26th January 1853, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Acton by the late Rev. Canon Mockridge, then rector of Warwick. Mr. and Mrs. Lucas celebrated their diamond wedding in 1913 when a large and happy gathering of relatives assembled at their home to congratulate the aged pair. His life partner predeceased him on the 24th July 1917. He is survived by four sons and two daughters:
Wellington and Richard of Brooke, Sanford of Alvinston, Wesley of Arkona, Mrs. D.
McLean and Mrs. D. Whitehead of Brooke, also by 45 grandchildren and a large number of great grandchildren. The deceased was a home lover, very industrious and self
sacrificing, intelligent and liberal minded and in his prime, kept well infonned and conversant with all subjects of local an.d general interest. He was an ardent lover of country life and advocated and supported whatever he considered to be in the interests of the township and country. He was a member of the Church of England and a lifeelong Conservative and was a loyal subject of five sovereigns. The funeral took place on Saturday the 12th February, from his late residence Lot 12 Con 12 to St. James Church cemetery, and was very largely attended. Services were held in the Church by the rector
