Emma was the daughter of George John Ferber and Elizabeth Roesch, both immigrants from Germany. She was born on 5 April 1886 in Shaler Township and was baptized at St. Paul's Church in McCandless Township. She died of tuberculosis on 16 August 1905 in O'Hara Township and was buried in the Etna Church graveyard. Her remains were moved to Greenwood on 31 October 1945. She is interred in the same grave as her older brother William.
