A year ago last November, she suffered a stroke of paralysis and about eight weeks ago the second stroke came. On last Easter Sunday she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and remained unconscious until she passed away at 10 o'clock p.m. April 12.
She was the daughter of a Baptist minister, Rev. John Barber, who was a chaplain in the Civil War, and went from camp to camp giving spiritual council to the soldiers. The daughter was naturally at first a member of the Baptist church, but when she came to Keosauqua she affiliated with the M.E. church and so remained a faithful member until her death when she was translated to the church triumphant. She, with her family, moved to Keosauqua in 1893. In 1902 she moved to Des Moines which was her home at the time of her death. She was the grandmother of 16 children and great grandmother of 6 children.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Keosauqua Sunday afternoon, April 15 at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. J.C. Caughlan and burial was in Purdom cemetery. The afflicted family are assured of the sympathy of all friends.
