Mrs. Dora A. Whiting, 73, of 1313 Creston Ave., left Detroit, Mich., at 8 a.m. Tuesday. She had been visiting relatives there and was planning to return to Des Moines by air, by way of Springfield, Mo. She planned to visit acquaintances there.
While about 10 minutes out of the Springfield airport, Mrs. Whiting suffered a heart attack.
She was talking with the plane stewardess at the time and oxygen treatment was started immediately, while the plane was in the air. She is believed to have died almost instantly, however.
Relatives here said Mrs. Whiting had traveled by plane on serveral previous occasions, and that her health has been good.
She is survived by three sons, Earl and Harold, Detroit and Charles, Redding, Cal; a daughter, Mrs. George Cessna, Des Moines, and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Whiting had lived for years with the Cessnas here. Cessna, her son-in-law, is a police inspector and head of the Des Moines police vice bureau.
Burial will be a Resthaven cemetery. The Rev. M.O. Sansbury, pastor of University Christian Church, will officiate at the service.
