Musician. Born Heinz Theodor Schmitz, he relocated to Canada in 1957 and established himself as a popular country music artist. In 1963, he formed the band Wild Rose Country and recorded ten albums. Twelve of Smith's singles made the Canadian Country Music Chart and his album "Country My Way", included four number 1 hits on it's own. He was the founding president of the Canadian Country Music Association and for his achievements in country music, he was named to the Order of Canada in 1995.
