Thomas P. Carey, 66, 8205 N. Winwood, died Friday evening in Ball Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Muncie, attended Muncie schools and was graduated from Central High School in 1938. Mr. Carey served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He was employed for more than 25 years at Ontario Corp. prior to his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Carey was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Eagles Lodge 245 and Moose Lodge 33.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Shores Carey, to whom he had been married 44 years; two sons, Jack and Phillip Carey, both of Muncie; a daughter, Dona Brubaker, Marion; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandhchildren; two brothers, James Maurice Carey, Phoenix, and John Carey, Albany; two sisters, Rosemary Loy, Phoenix, and Marjorie Drayer, Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
His son, Thomas Joseph Carey, was killed in Vietnam in 1967.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are at the mortuary from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be sent to Vietnam Veterans of Delaware County.
