DOEPKE
Another Incident in the History of the Body-Snatcher.
Did He Mean to Sell the Body of His Brother When He
Opened His Grave, Pulled the Whiskers from
His Face, and Otherwise Disfigured
His Remains?
How utterly lost to good impulses, or how devoid of feeling poor humanity may become it is difficult to estimate, in view of the fact that old limits are sometimes so far exceeded as to render the calculation forces useless. Readers of the GLOBE-DEMOCRATE will remember of the arrest of Ernest Doepke and two companions, on the night of Monday, December 13, for the crime of bodysnatching, the grave desecrated and robbed being that of Gerhard Doll, a German, who had been buried on the preceding afternoon, in the Old Pickers Cemetery, at the intersection of Gravois Road and Wyoming Street. At the time of the arrest the body of Doll was in the wagon, with the thieves, affording conclusive proof of guilt.
