Bertha Irene Nelson Ray, Hillcrest Nursing Center, Grove City formerly of College View Towers, Grove City, died of a four-year illness at 7:55 p.m. Saturday (6-6-92) in United Community Hospital, Pine Township, where she was a patient three days. She was 88. Mrs. Ray was born in Liberty Township Nov. 15, 1903, to Winfield Scott and Margaret Janetta Eppinger Nelson. A Grove City High School graduate, Mrs. Ray graduated from what is now Slippery Rock University in 1923. She taught at former schools in Springfield and Liberty townships. Her husband, Charles G. Ray, whom she married in 1924, died June 19, 1965. Mrs. Ray was a member of Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City, and its Adult Sunday School Class and Best to Be group. Surviving are: two daughters, Helen Mechler, Grove City; and Donna Robson, Hermitage; two sisters, Ethel Lightner, Grove City; and Helen McCamant, Frederick, Md.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Vance and Anna Ruth Montgomery; and a brother, Clarence Nelson. Funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday (8-10-92) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City, with the Rev. Clark T. Olson-Sawyer of Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City, officiating. Burial in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
