DR. DEAN CURTIS DIES WEDNESDAY, RITES FRIDAY

Dr. Dean Curtis, 65, a longtime Chariton physician, associated with the Yocom Hospital for 20 years, died Wednesday at the hospital following an illness of four months.

Dr. Curtis, a native of Chariton, joined his brother-in-law, Dr. A. L. Yocom, as a partner in the Yocom Hospital in 1946 and had served the community continuously since that time.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m., from the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. John Bauserman officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted at the funeral home with military graveside rites to be held at the Chariton cemetery.

Dr. Curtis was a member of both the state and county medical associations, the Baptist Church, American Legion, Masonice Lodge and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.

Born and reared in Chariton he graduated from Chariton High School and was a graduate of Des Moines University and the University of Iowa School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Post Graduate Hospital in New York City and practiced surgery there until entering the Army in 1941. He served as a lieutenant colonel in the medical corps.

Dr. Curtis is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, John Dean, a student at the University of South Dakota College of Medicine at Vermillion, and Todd William, who will enter Cornell College this fall, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Dean Curtis.

Also surviving are four brothers, John of Darien, Conn., George of Des Moines, Edwin of Chariton, and Paul of Maxwell. His parents, two sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.
