Louis was born about 1842 in Hanover, Germany to Christoph Boerner and Dorothea Christine Henriette Schierholz. His family immigrated from Germany in 1855. His mother (Dorothea Schierholz) died during the voyage and was buried at sea.
In 1860, he is living in the home of his brother, C.W. Boerner and his family in Comfort, Texas. And they are all living next door to their cousin Henry Boerner and his family.
And next door to that household is another cousin, Wilhelm F. Boerner who was also killed by Confederates.
