He was born on Feb. 7, 1935, in Metamora to the late Joseph and Amanda (Winkler) Durst. He married Wilda Logsdon on Sept. 1, 1972, in Lacon. She preceded him in death on Oct. 1, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard, Harlan, Quentin "Jim," Clifford, Wesley and Joseph; his sister, Bernadine Fauber; and one grandchild.
Jake's priorities in life were to love and serve the Lord, his family and his church. He loved to sing in the church choir and was part of the Centered in Christ Sunday School class.
He was active in many community affairs, including the Marshall County Youth Football Program. He served on the City Council and the Township Board, was a member of the Republican Committee and was also instrumental in forming the Marshall County Young Republicans.
Jake worked at CILCO for 30 years as a lineman and a troubleshooter and then as supervisor of Electric Service, retiring in 1991. He also farmed the family farm for many years until 1976.
He graduated from Mid-County High School in 1953 and also attended Illinois Wesleyan University.
