There is much misinformation about this grave. The woman buried here is actually Rebecca Ellison Wages, the first wife of John James Wages (a son of Joel Wages). Nine months after Rebecca's death, John James buried his father (Joel Wages) in 1873 next to Rebecca. John James remarried in 1874 and he and his second wife, Margaret Jane "Peggy" Clark, were buried in what had become the Wages cemetery on John James' land, which would later become the Auburn City Cemetery.

Because of the confusion of this grave, some people have incorrectly assumed that Joel's wife, Sarah Akin(s) Wages, had the middle name Rebecca. There is NO indication that was Sarah's middle name. Sarah Wages (wife of Joel), born about 1804 and died some time in the 1850's, is likely buried at Corinth Cemetery, which was often called "Old Midway." Old timers said the congregation of Corinth moved locations and some of the logs of Corinth were used in the construction of Midway. It is likely that Corinth burned. There is evidence of graves at the location of Corinth but there is only one readable grave there. The site has been reclaimed by forest.

Rebecca Ellison Wages is the woman in this grave at Midway Church Cemetery and NOT Sarah Akins(s) Wages, wife of Joel! Her granddaughter, Lura Wages Morris told me (Dianne Wages) that she remembered as a child "helping to tend the grave of her grandmother, Rebecca" at Midway Church. Lura even later had a marker put down to properly identify this grave but that it had the incorrect spelling of Ellerson. The Gwinnett Co. marriage record of John James Wages and Rebecca reads Allison, which may be an incorrect variation of Ellison. There were a number of Ellison families in the area. Early Midway Church records indicate a contract of construction with a man of the last name Ellison.

The children of John James Wages and Rebecca Ellison Wages were Lucinda Jane (1847-1929), Joel Francis "Frank" (1851-1936), Jesse Mansel (Mansil) (1856-1938), William Allen (1861-1919), and Bolden Parks Wages (1865-1950).
