John K. Rahm, 93, of Newington and Charlestown, R.I., beloved husband of Helen (Holland) Rahm, died on June 8, 2011.

He was born in Cologne, Germany on January 27, 1918, and was the son of the late John Andrew Rahm of Munich, Germany and West Hartford, and Barbara (Putz) Rahm of Aachen, Germany and West Hartford.

John came to America, through Ellis Island at the age of nine; his family resided in Long Island, N.Y., in 1930. He later moved to West Hartford and then to Newington after his marriage to Helen.

John was a hairdresser and cosmetician by trade, and owned and operated John Your Hairdresser (founded by his Dad) on Farmington Ave., Hartford for 40 years.

In 1943, he entered into the U.S. Navy. John was an enthusiastic photographer, an avid fisherman, and had a great love of the outdoors and landscape. He was happiest when in his gardens. He was proud of his Senate Citation from the State of Rhode Island in recognition of his years of exemplary services as a "Salt Pond Watcher" at Shady Harbor.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Helen; his daughter Pamela R. and son-in-law Edward Czelazewicz of Newington; daughter Linda B. Rahm and her partner Lorraine Libby of Farmington; and his sister Helen R. Doyle of North Chelmsford, MA. John was predeceased by his beloved grandson "Ricky". He also leaves his three step grandchildren, Edward and his wife Barbara, Steven and his wife Laura and DeRonde Czelazewicz, and five great grandchildren, Julia, Nathan, Steven, Sabrina and Shane Wyatt Czelazewicz. He also leaves three nieces, Leslie, Sharon and Karen; three nephews, James, Thomas and Kurt; and was predeceased by his nephew Craig.

The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Team and Nurses at Hartford Hospital for their kind guidance and loving care.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth C. Brookes officiating. He will be laid to rest privately in West Meadow Cemetery.
