Mr. Franken was born in Germany, son of Franz and Maria Dehnen Franken. He married Edith Etherton, in 1910, in Buffalo. He had been a peace justice for 20 years, and was a trustee of the old Ohio School and was a member of Ohio Granges.
He leaves six sons, Gerhard Jr., Gray; Joseph, Texas; William David and his wife, Mae, Chicago; Ernest, Pasadena, Calif.; Bernard, Utica, and Arend, Littleton, Colo., three daughters, Mrs. Olive Strobel, Newport; Mrs. Alfred Moran, Ohio, and Mrs. Gordon Freund, Honolulu; two brothers, Joseph, Ohio, and Mathias, in Germany; and a sister, Miss Mathlide Franken, Ohio.
