Kempfenbrunn was a village in the SW corner of the province; in 1775 became a musketeer in the Hesse-Hanau Infantry Regiment Erbprinz; left for America 15 March 1775, became part of General Bergoin's army thet was defeated at saratoge in 1777, was captured and as a POW marched to Charlottesville, VA in Jan 1779; he escaped while being transferred to the Shenandoah Valley, returned to White Hall in Albemarle Co, VA to get married, and returned to Shenandoah Co (now Page Co); returned to Albemarle Co and bought land there; died intestate, and not until 1816 was an indenture drawn up that transferred his land to his heirs; not a slaveholder.
