Henry married Magdalena Klapper on 24 Nov. 1898. Henry's brother Jacob and Henrich Klapper were witnesses.

Henry died from injuries suffered in an accident as reported by the Courier Journal:

Caught between two street cars while returning home from work yesterday afternoon, Henry Bickel, 42 years old, employee of the L&N Shops, suffered injuries that caused his death at 4:45 o'clock shortly after arriving at City Hospital.

Bickel lived at 567 Wainright St., a short distance from the shops. Unable to board a crowded car, he hung from a window guard of the car near the front on the left side and directly in the path of a car on the opposite tracks according to witnesses.
