In his last letter home Hans wrote to his parents that he survived the war, and that he was now in a British POW Camp in Holland.
"Dear parents please don't worry, I´ll return home someday"
But Hans and lots of his Comrades never returned home because they were used by the Dutch to clean up land mines, not quite according to the Geneva Convention. On August 1st he had an accident, stepping on a S-mine. Two hours later he quietly passed away due to the injuries received. A few of his fellow prisoners should follow. German POW's called those missions "Himmelfahrtskommandos" (Ascension day Missions)
