VIENNA - Herman A. Boog, 76, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at his home.

Born June 18, 1925, he was the only child of the late Fred A. and Lavada Hackett Boog. He was born and spent his entire life on Steam Mill Farm.

As a young boy, he served as an altar boy at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Vienna. As a young man, he was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Dorchester County by the Dorchester County Extension Service. He was a member of the Dorchester County Farm Bureau, the Dorchester County Farm Bureau Discussion Group, the United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men of Vienna, Cambridge B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1272 and the Chicone Ruritan Club, where he had served as president, as well as holding other offices. He also served on the Dorchester County Zoning Board of Appeals.

With the help of his friend, Randall Murphy, he erected the Chicone community bulletin board showcase currently in use in Vienna. As a younger man, he assisted in the revitalization of St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Nellie Elizabeth Sellers; one son, Vernon G. Boog of Vienna; one daughter, Constance Lavada Boog Payne of Secretary; one son-in-law, Glen A. Payne Sr. of Secretary; one granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Payne of Secretary; one brother-in-law, Reginald L. Sellers and his wife, Emma Jean, of Vienna; one nephew, Reggie Sellers, of Vienna; and five cousins, Harry Boog Jr. of Hampstead, Louise Boog Basler of Hollywood, Md., David Boog of Mardela, Rosetta Boog Hurley of Ocean City and Sylvia Lavada Hackett of Chestertown.

A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery in Vienna. The Rev. Mary Anne Farnell will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6 to 8:30 tonight at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.

Pallbearers will be Jason Bradley, Byron Cameron, Bill Outten, Dewaine Woodsen, Bob Dixon and Vic Sainato. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Spear, Gene Spear, Ed Willey, Reg Sellers and Randall Murphy.

The family requests no flowers be sent. Memorial contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733 or Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 5, Vienna, MD 21869.
