John Boniface appears to have been the "rebel" in the family---Two brothers (who were furniture makers) lived in New York and were married, 2 were priests, 1 sister was a nun. Boniface, on the other hand, moved to Ohio, eventually working in at least two different breweries.

1870 census, (John Colonel) a brewery worker in Cincinnati with wife Magdalena, 2 daughters (from 1st wife) and Frank. Came to New Richmond shortly after that, and worked at Baumann's Brewery, which still stands on State Route 132. The large brick building was later Dormer Brothers Mill, and lastly Clasgens Woolen Mills (Clermont Woolen Mills)
