OBITUARY

DETLEF BRANDT

Detlef Brandt was born at Husem, Germany, October 13, 1830, and died at Stratford, Iowa, June 19, 1898, at the age of 67 years, 8 months, 7 days. At the age of 19 years he was called to serve in the German Revolution and served there one year until 1850. When he returned from the war he was married to Anna C. Jensen. After their marriage he served sixteen months in the Danish Revolution. In 1863, they came to America, locating at Clinton, Ia., and remained there for three years, when the came to Hamilton county, residing here until his death. A wife and four children are left to mourn his loss.

Mr. Brandt was an honest, industrious, kind-hearted man, a good workman and a good neighbor. He bore his suffering patiently and uncomplainingly to the last. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Reaper of Death is ever in our midst and sooner or later each one of us will be called upon to leave our work here and join the innumerable host who have gone before.

"So live, that when thy summons comes to join
The innumerable caravan which moves
To that mysterious realm where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death;
Thou go not like the quarry slave at night,
Scourged to his dungeon; but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave
Like one wraps the drapery of his couch
About him and lies down to pleasant dreams."

Card of Thanks.
We hereby express our thanks to the friends and neighbors, who so kindly aided us during the illness and death of our husband and father.
- Mrs. C. Brandt and Family.
