Helmut Neufeld Sr., 78, of 305 N. Academy Drive, Ephrata, died at his home early Sunday morning in his sleep. He had been under the care of a physician. He was the husband of Trude Franzen Neufeld.
Born in Germany, he was the son of the late Otto and Justine Janzen Neufeld. He arrived in the United States in 1952 and became a United States citizen.
He worked for the New Holland Concrete Company from 1952 until 1967. He was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church. In his native Germany he served as a lay minister.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are four children: Else M., wife of Donald S. Shirk, Churchtown; Gertrude E., wife of Eric Habegger, Akron; Helmut Jr. and Hans Peter Neufeld, both of Akron; and eight grandchildren.
