Born in Germany, he was the son of the late Otto and Justine Janzen Neufeld. He arrived in the United States in 1952 and became a United States citizen.
He worked for the New Holland Concrete Company from 1952 until 1967. He was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church. In his native Germany he served as a lay minister.
Surviving, in addition to his widow, are four children: Else M., wife of Donald S. Shirk, Churchtown; Gertrude E., wife of Eric Habegger, Akron; Helmut Jr. and Hans Peter Neufeld, both of Akron; and eight grandchildren.
