On Friday, police said it appears that Steven C. Lester, 60, called his longtime girlfriend, Vanessa Klein, 24, to come over to his home sometime Wednesday evening. Lester confronted her at the door and shot her multiple times then turned the gun on himself.
A handgun belonging to Lester was found near his body, according to police.
∼Vanessa Smith Klein, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away on Aug. 17, 2011.
She was born Oct. 17, 1986, the daughter of Steve Smith and the granddaughter of Janine Paul, both formerly of Marietta, IL.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2011, in Baughman Cemetery in Smithfield, IL.
