Daughter of Matthias Thomann and his wife Marguerite Eschbach, both born in France--the Haute-Rhine, Alsace, region. Mary and her siblings were the first generation of Thomanns to be born in the United States. The Thomanns moved to Iowa. They were members of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, Iowa, where a stained glassed window was erected in their honor. She wed Joseph Stransky and had six children. Several of her descendants still live in Riverside, Iowa.
