Johannes Zehner was born in West Penn township, Schuylkill Co., where he died when over 84 years old. During the summer season he engaged in farming, operating, and owning the place where George B. Adams now resides, and in the winter time followed his trade of cooper, making barrells, etc., contining both lines throughout his active years. He was a Democrat and served as supervisor of his township. His religous connection was with the Lutheran congregation of Zions Church, but he was not specially active in its work. He and his wife, Christina (Steigerwalt), daughter of Jospeh Steigerwalt are buried in Zion's Church. They had the following children: William, who married Polly Houser; Moses, who married a Miss Schwartz; Hettie, wife of Daniel Halderman; Gideon, who married Sarah Houser; and John S., who married Rebecca Bennighoff.
