Fredrick J. "Fred" Pape Sr., 92, of 1695 Mount Pleasant St., died at 3:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Manorcare Health Services. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nativity Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Vienna, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, where there will be the Nativity Parish Christian Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Pape established the Pape Shoe Store in 1967, retiring in 1975, when he moved to Waterbury, Neb. He returned to Dubuque in July 2000. He was born on Dec. 7, 1908, in Petersburg, Neb., son of Bernard and Rose (Neuhaus) Pape. He married Abeline C. Pasker on Oct. 10, 1933, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna; she died on Oct. 4, 1974. He later married Rosemary C. Geddes on July 26, 1975; she died on April 12, 1992. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy in the Pacific Theatre of operations from 1942-1945 on the USS Olympus. He was active in veteran's organizations and was a charter member of the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7736. He served as Commander of American Legion Dubuque Post 6 and served as Chef de Gare of La Societe 40 et 8 Voiture Locale 632. Surviving are a son, Fred J. (Nancy) Pape Jr., of Dubuque; two grandchildren, Tami Jo (Jeff) Bozarth, of Denton, Texas, and Michael J. (Lori) Pape, of Lake in the Hills, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Airyn, Layce and Jordyn Bozarth and Brandon Pape; and a sister, Charlotte Krull, of Ann Arbor, Mich. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters. In lieu of flowers, a Fred J. Pape Sr. Memorial Fund has been established.
