Dorothy Solarz, 93 year old resident of Upsala, MN passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell, MN. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 26, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala, MN with Father Michael Kellogg officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 P.M. on Sunday and from 10-11 A.M. on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala, MN. Christian Mothers Rosary at 6:00 PM followed by Parish prayers at 7:30 P.M. on Sunday. Funeral arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel serving Upsala, MN.

Dorothy was born May 5, 1918 to the late Joseph and Anna (Von Boken) Austing. She attended school in St. Rosa, Minnesota. Dorothy was united in marriage to Leo Solarz on February 24, 1936 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Elmdale, MN. She worked alongside her husband on the family farm while raising their 9 children. Dorothy was known for her wonderful sweet rolls, pies, and donuts. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Upsala, quilted for missions, and was part of Christian Mothers for over 50 years. Dorothy was a wonderful card and scrabble player. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing and tending to her garden. Dorothy was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Dale Solarz of Woodbine, MD, Kory (Ann) Solarz of St. Cloud, MN, Lloyd (LaVonne) Solarz of Hackensack, MN, Ken (Ruth) Solarz of Upsala, MN, David (Kimaree) Solarz of Upsala, MN, and Kevin Solarz of Upsala, MN; daughters, Kathleen (John) Conroy of Chantilly, VA, Darleen (Alan) Quade of Roseville, MN and Lynette (Tom) Ostendorf of Coon Rapids, MN; sister Beatrice (Sylverius) Rademacher of Meire Grove, MN; brother Albert (Mary Jane) Austing of St. Paul, MN; 25 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna; husband, Leo Solarz, grandchild, Lisa Solarz, great-grandchild, Kendal Solarz/Reinhart.
