FORT WORTH -- Christine Smith Wilson, 83, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease and cancer.

Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday at University Christian Church. The family will greet friends in the Gallery following the service.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Stan and Christine Smith Wilson Broadcast Journalism Scholarship Fund, TCU Box 297044, Fort Worth, Texas 76129; Vitas Hospice, 2501 Parkview Dr. Suite 600, Fort Worth, Texas 76102; or the Alzheimer's Association, 1400 W. 5th St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102.

Christine was born in Campbell, Sept. 9, 1919, the only child of Marvin Smith and Bess Raiford Tomlinson Smith. She was class favorite at Paschal in 1937, then went on to TCU, where she met Stan Wilson while both were students there. They married in 1940.

Her husband's broadcasting career took her from Waco to McAllen to Amarillo and back to Fort Worth, when they returned in 1955 with their three daughters, whom Christine always described as her "only claim to fame."

Christine was active in many philanthropies throughout her active social life. During World War II, she was a volunteer and member of the Navy Wives of Officers Overseas Club. In Waco, she was the first president of the OptiMrs. Club. In McAllen, she served in the Junior Service League.

In Fort Worth, she was a longtime member of the Woman's Club and served in Goodwill Industries Auxiliary. Her TCU involvement included TCU Women Exes, the Addison Randolph Clark Society, the TCU Alumni Association, Frog Club and Quinq Club Board of Directors.

She was also a member of University Christian Church and Colonial Country Club. Christine, an avid member of her neighborhood bridge club for over 40 years, cherished a close circle of friends, many of whom she had known since childhood. She was a loving wife for 62 years and a devoted mother and grandmother.

The family expresses its gratitude to Dr. Alan Davenport and his staff, the Bethesda Gardens staff and Vitas Hospice.
