John Keeton died at the home of her
son John, at the head of the lake, town
of Castile, Sunday, August 11th, aged
over 90 years.
The 25th of May, Mrs Keeton suffered
a stroke of paralysis, since which
time she has not been able to speak.
One shock was followed by another until
she was utterly helpless. During
this time she has received the tender
care of her son and his son, with whom
she has made her home for the last 12
years.
Sarah Buckel Keeton was born in
London, England, March 29th 1811,
and came to this country with her husband
and two children 52 years ago. All
of this time her home had been in this
vicinity, a part of the time in the village.
Mr. Keeton died in 1871. The
deceased was the mother of nine children,
six of whom survive, namely; John
of Castile, Mrs. Maria Higgins of
Geneva, William, of Colorado Springs,
Thomas of North Bend, Nebraska, Frank of
Elmira, George of Nebraska. Since her
childhood Mrs. Keeton has been a member
of the Episcopal church. She was
a good woman, devoted mother, kind
neighbor and friend.
The funeral was held from the home
of her son John, Tuesday afternoon at
one o'clock, and was largely attended,
Rev. H. A. Pease officiated and singing
was furnished by a quartette from Perry.
Interment was made by the side of her
husband in Hope Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. David Higgins of Geneva,
and Mr. Frank Keeton, wife and son,
Gerald, of Elmira, were present at the funeral.
