As a member of the local federal home guard, Dolly captured an English adventurer on a spy mission for Dixie in 1863 on his farm in what is now Grant Co., West Virginia. The Englishman was an author and included the episode in his book BORDER AND BASTILLE.
Abijah Dolly married first to Jemima Michael in 1838. She bore him nine children before her death in 1871. Three years later he married again to Ruhama George and there were eight more children.
