He was born July 23, 1892 in Grundy County, the son of Hiko and Jennie (Muhring) Isder, and received his education in rural Grundy County schools. On Jan. 6, 1920 he was united in marriage to Katie Kielman in Bristow. The couple moved to Emmet County after they were married and farmed until they retired in 1963 when they moved into Estherville. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Lutheran Church and American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Ernest and John Isder, both of Estherville; five daughters, Mrs. Allie (Elsie) Wink, Cyrus, Minn., Mrs. Rudy (Esther) Bicknase, Fairmont, Minn., Mrs. Irene Kielmann, Estherville, Mrs. Kenneth (Eunice) Volgt, Bixby, Okla.; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Whitmire, Stockton, Calif.

Estherville – The obituary for John Isder Sr., which appeared in the Monday, Sept. 16, edition of the Daily News incorrectly stated that Isder was a member of the American Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Estherville. His daughter, Mrs. Bill McLoughlin, Lincoln, Neb., was also omitted from the list of survivors.
