Charles Gardner Bowers resided in Maine, Broome, New York throughout his life and died there in 1918. He married Esther Jane Flint (1839-1914) on 12 April 1860 in Maine, Broome, New York, daughter of William J. Flint (1815-1885) and Annis Marean (1817-1888).

Charles varied his activities from cabinet-maker, under-taker, and farmer. After a short and successful career as traveling representative of the Syracuse casket firm, Charles returned to Maine (N.Y.) where he settled in the Flint family home and became the village undertaker. He was a popular and attractive gentleman. He was well-regarded by the whole community. There were no children of this union. (Ref: Clement Gray Bowers letter of 7 March 1968)
