From the Obituary Record, May 28, 1888:

"Mr. Francis Osbourne [sic] MacTavish, aged 31 years, a former Baltimorean, died Saturday at the Blossom House in Kansas City after a lingering illness. Mr. MacTavish had been suffering from lung trouble for some time, and went to Kansas City last autumn in search of health. The body will be brought back to Baltimore for burial. Mr. MacTavish was never very actively engaged in business."

The death certificate is dated May 25, 1888. It gives Francis' age as 30, and the cause of death as "morbis cordi", or heart disease.

Son of Alexander Simon MacTavish and Ellen Gilmor. Grandson of Declaration of Independence signer Charles Carroll of Carrollton. Married Sarah Gilmor on November 21, 1878.

Francis was named for his great-uncle by marriage, Francis Goldophin D'Arcy Osborne, the 7th Duke of Leeds. The Duke was married to Alex's great aunt Louisa Caton.

2. Anita Carroll MacTavish (1883-1914); married first, George H. Elder; married second, Anton Dahl Kofoed; married third, Edward L. Quarles.
3. Richard Caton MacTavish, born September 5, 1884, died March 17, 1930 in Tucson, AZ. Married Thelma E. Dale; one daughter, Carroll Mactavish Erringer.
4-5. Francis and John (twins), born October 10, 1886, died young.
