"Robert Wilke, Sr., age 74, custodian of the Buchanan school building for more than 20 years until his retirement in 1943 and previously engaged in commercial shad fishing in Buchanan, died yesterday at 6 P.M. at his home. Death resulted from the effects of a stroke of apoplexy which he suffered Wednesday. He was born in Crugers, N. Y. September 18th, 1877, the son of Frank and Eleanore Conklin Wilke. At one time he and his brother Frank conducted a fish route under the name of Wilke Brothers. They were commercial river fishermen and did much shad fishing. His wife, the former Edith May Tice Wilke, died July 26th, 1914, at Taunton, Mass. At the time of his death Mr. Wilke belonged to no fraternal organizations but at one time he was very active in the affairs of the Eagles, he belonging to the Nest in Taunton, Mass. ... Surviving are two sons, Charles of Peekskill and Robert Wilke Jr. of Buchanan; two daughters, Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Cole of Peekskill and Mrs. Charles (Evelyn) Perry of Buchanan; one brother, Frank of Buchanan; and one sister Mrs. Harry (Laura) Ruxton, of Yonkers, ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The Rev. Conrad E. Metzger, pastery of the Buchanan Trinity Methodist Church, will officiate at the funeral services to be held Thursday at 2 P.M. from his late residence, 156 Lindsey avenue, Buchanan.
