Born in Worth Twp., Edward was a son of Georges Benjamin Joerger, b. Niederroedern, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, France and Maria Magdalena née Ortmann Joerger, b. Leipzig, Germany. He was the husband of Emma Celeste (née Gehrig) Joerger. They married in Pekin on January 30, 1882.

Ed was a barber on Court Street, Pekin, for 69 years. He was a member of Gehrig's 7th Regimental Musical Band and he was also a sportsman.

Pekin -
Edward Charles Joerger, 92, who could recall seeing Abraham Lincoln visiting his father, died at 6 a. m. Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Irene Quevy. He had been ill about a week. Joerger said his father and Lincoln were good friends.

He was taken to the Noel Funeral Home where services will be held at 3 p. m. Saturday, with the Rev. George A. Ross officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

He was born near Germantown, Woodford County, in a log cabin June 21, 1860, a son of George and Mary Ortman Joerger. He married Emma Gehrig Jan. 30, 1882, at Pekin. She died in 1932.

Surviving is one son, Rudolph, and one daughter, Mrs. Quevy, both of Pekin, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was a barber for 69 years in the same location here, retiring in 1945. He was a charter member of the Gehrig Band of Pekin, which disbanded many years ago.
