Rosemarie Kettlewell "Meenie" Bowen, 81, of Stephens City, Virginia, died Friday, November 18, 2011, in her home.

Mrs. Bowen was born in 1930 in McMechen, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Amos and Gertrude Kettlewell.

She graduated from Middletown High School in 1948 and the Winchester Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She served as a Registered Nurse at Winchester Memorial Hospital and Winchester Medical Center, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church and the Retired Nurses Association. She was loved by many and widely admired for her kind heart and her strong commitment to her family.

Her husband, Jack Lawrence Bowen, whom she married on January 28, 1951, in Hagerstown, Maryland, preceded her in death in 1971.

Surviving is her daughter, Susan Marie Owens and husband Gary of Stephens City; three sons, Jack L. Bowen, II and wife Patricia of Hagerstown, Maryland, David Michael Bowen and wife Janice of Stephens City, and Stephen Wayne Bowen and wife Brenda of Winchester; five grandchildren, Jack Lawrence Bowen, III, Evan Michael Bowen, Sara Elizabeth Bowen, Emily Rose Bowen and Maria Louise Bowen; two sisters, Barbara K. Lineburg of Stephens City, and Johanna Maas of Pulaski, New York; and brother, Amos G. Kettlewell of Winchester. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.

Three sisters, Adda L. Kettlewell, Gertrude K. Seal, Bertha K. Shiley, and one brother, John H. Kettlewell, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary will be Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home.
