LUXEMBURG, Iowa - Mrs. Gene (Helen) Goebel, 88, of Luxemburg, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, in Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Luxemburg, with burial in St. Boniface Cemetery, New Vienna. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where the nieces and nephews will recite the rosary at 2:30 p.m., parish scripture service will be held at 4 p.m., and the Holy Trinity Rosary Society will recite a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1912, in New Vienna, daughter of Anton and Bernadine (Arens) Klaus.
She married Eugene A. Goebel on Aug. 25, 1936, in New Vienna. They farmed in the Luxemburg area all their life.
She was a member of the Holy Trinity Rosary Society. She loved gardening, her baby chicks, the pullet's first egg and especially cooking to feed any hungry soul who happened to show up at dinnertime.

Surviving are her husband, Gene; four sons, Jack (Sylvia), of Colesburg, Ernie George (Georgia), of Dubuque, Joseph (Mary), of Guttenberg, and Robert (Rita), of Worthington; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and a brother, Richie Klaus, of Sun City, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by 6 sisters, Olga Heiring, Emma Lueck, Calista Goedken, Ardella Kluesner, Abbie Scherbring and Armella Lammers, and 2 brothers, Ed and Alver Klaus.

The Goebel family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Stonehill Care Center and Hospice of Dubuque for their excellent care of Helen.
