BLUFORD, Mrs. Ernestine - Age 86, passed away Friday, October 28, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 2p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2:30p.m. Rev. Dr. Major A. Stewart officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 2p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Bluford will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2-8 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Ernestine Bluford was born May 10, 1925 in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of the late William and Minnie Johnson. Ernestine had three brothers and five sisters. She graduated from Flint Northern High School, "Class of 1943" and later married Lewis Bluford. Ernestine worked at Genesee Merchant Bank and Trust Company as an Elevator Operator for many years. She loved to shop, dress, cook and bake cakes, especially "Red Velvet." Ernestine had one daughter, Alberta Marlene Bluford.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Lewis Charles Bluford; daughter, Alberta Marlene Bluford of Flint; grandson, Alexo Charles (Kimberly) Bluford of Hampton, VA; great-grandchild, Jada Alexis Bluford; 3 sisters, Gladys Hodge, Erma Stringer and Dorothy Odom, all of Flint; nieces and great nieces, Patt Hodge, Lisa Fields, Debra Thomas, Tara Johnson, Lexis Johnson and Brandi Odom, all of Flint, Cheryl Odom, and Alexandra Matthews, both of Richmond, VA; nephews and great nephews, Fred Vincent, Rodney Collins, Michael Collins, Glenn Powell, Tony Odom, Marcus Odom, James Fields, Raymond Fields, Ricky Johnson, Gerald Johnson, all of Flint and Nikolas Matthews of Richmond, VA.
Mrs. Bluford was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Johnson and father, William Johnson; 1 sister; 2 brothers; 2 nieces; and 3 nephews.
