Richard Seewald

Rich Seewald, 65, of Boise, died May 20, 2010 after an extended illness. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, May 24, at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11a.m., Monday, May 25, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 1515 8th St., Nampa. Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.

Rich was born in Nampa, on Jan. 25, 1945. He was raised there by his parents, Lawrence and Judy Seewald. He attended St. Paul's through the 8th grade and graduated from Nampa High. Rich led a purpose driven life - when he wanted to do something he taught himself. This passion began with an auto body shop in Caldwell. He owned his own business and did all the repairs including painting, perfectly! From the body shop business he progressed to building homes as a residential contractor. His first job was to build his own home in Boise doing all the work himself from concrete foundation to painting and finish work. Rich went on to build many homes over the next 22 years doing most of the work on each home. He just completed a final home - "his pride and joy" - this year. For relaxation Rich chose strenuous sports. He took up running at the age of 44. He could run a 6-minute mile and entered numerous local events including finishing the grueling Robie Creek run three times. He bought a mountain bike and hit the trails. Tennis was another one of his passions. Here too, he challenged himself to do his best and won numerous awards in tennis competitions. He loved all sporting events and was an avid BSU Broncos fan. Rich was tough but also a loving, gentle man … so much so that he didn't care for R-rated or violent movies. He enjoyed meeting the challenges that life offered to him. He was very devoted to his family and to Eva, his long time friend and companion. Our world will be so empty without him.

Rich is survived by his mother Judy; his devoted companion Eva Van Curen; his brother Ron (wife Shelley); niece Tina and sons- Russell, (wife Kim) and Bradley (wife Jennifer). He has four grandchildren; Spencer, Shelby, Savannah and Allison. He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence, brother Charles and infant daughter Janet.
