Linda Fast

June 28, 1912 - Sept. 27, 2010.

Linda, oldest child of Henry A. and Augusta Schmidt Willems, was born June 28,1912 on a farm near Waldheim Saskatchewan. Her early education took place in the Rose River and Brotherfield country schools, followed by Bible School, Teachers' College and the University of Saskatchewan. She was a teacher by profession and taught in Loch Lomond, Mt. Lake, N.Battleford, Winnipeg and Saskatoon W. Schools.
She married Edwin Fast, a farmer on July 9, 1946 in the Brotherfield church. Ed and Linda ran Sunset Farm together for 30 years near Dalmeny and Langham. The principal crop was grain and before long they acquired a registered Jersey herd. Later, Linda returned to teaching.
Always ready for an adventure Linda and Ed moved a number of times, also living in BC and the KW area.
Linda brought a love of books and music to her family. She served in the capacity of Church Librarian for many years. She has written a number of books including: The Schmidt Family History; A Translation of Schmidt Family Correspondence; The Families of the Flamings, Willems and Abraham and Sarah Willems; Our Parents in Brotherfield; and Brotherfield MB Church, a History 1898 - 1986.
After retiring from teaching, Linda became an expert potter, working at home with her own wheel and kiln. She fulfilled a lifelong wish to paint and study painting, her favourite subject being Canadian Landscapes. Linda further satisfied her artistic nature with beautiful crocheting and quilting. Both Ed and Linda were active supporters of the MCC, donating quilts, and woven blankets throughout the years.
Linda Willems Fast was a loving and supportive wife and mother, always endeavouring to do her best for her family, setting a fine example for her children, quietly touching the lives of those she came in contact with.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Judith, her precious companion Edwin, and is survived by daughter Constance.
A funeral service will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday, October 3 at 11 a.m. Interment at Parkview Cemetery, Waterloo will take place at a later date.
