Lyle Walton, age 93, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, at his residence. His graveside service will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 31st, at Wessington Cemetery, at Wessington, South Dakota, with Rev. Allen Sager, officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Watson-Krauter American Legion Post #110 of Wessington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, May 30th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Lyle Walton was born May 21, 1920, in Bonilla, South Dakota, to William Albert Walton and Marilla O'Hara Walton. He attended school until eighth grade to work the family farm. Lyle later obtained his GED and earned an engineer's license. Lyle served in the Army Air Corp as a gunner during WWII.

On January 3, 1947, he married Kathryn Rose Teschner at Washington DC. Following their marriage, they lived in Canton, Ohio for two years. Then they moved to the Wessington and Carpenter areas after his parents were killed in an accident. In 1958, they moved to Carter Lake, Iowa, where they lived for 50 years. Lyle was employed with the Federal Reserve Bank in Omaha, Nebraska before he retired in 1982. Lyle and Kathryn spent their retirement winters in Donna, Texas until 2002. In 2010, they moved to Springfield, Missouri.

Lyle loved to spend his time camping and fishing. He was a wonderful storyteller as well.

He is survived by three children, Ron Walton and his wife, Kathy, Judy Rasmussen and her husband, Dennis, and Joyce Larsen; four grandchildren; one sister, Cleone Rice of Rockham, South Dakota; and one sister-in-law, Marlene Walton of Carter Lake, Iowa.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathryn Rose Walton; three brothers, Melvin Walton, Marvin Walton, and Leon Walton; and two sisters, Roberta Marshall and Aletha Kissner.
