Mr. William Bittner, a resident of this locality all his life, passed away Monday evening at 10:40 o'clock at the home of his sister, Miss Barbara Bittner, where he had been making his home for the past ten years. Complications of diseases was the cause of his demise. Mr. Bittner had reached the age of 63 years, six months and eight days.
Mr. Bittner had been ailing for the past nine years but has been seriously ill for the past several weeks, being confined to his bed for about three weeks. Everything that loving hands could do was done for him to relieve his sufferings and on Monday evening, he was called by his Master.
The deceased, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bittner, was born in Brooklyn Township on August 23, 1869 and grew to young manhood there. He was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Barnickle. Three children came to bless this union, one child dying in infancy.
The family lived on farms in Brooklyn township until Mrs. Bittner passed away about ten years ago. Since then he has been making his home with his sister, Miss Barbara Bittner the greatest part of the time.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his two children, Wm. P. Bittner of Paw Paw and Mrs. Clarence Faber of LaMoille; five grandchildren; two brothers, Ed. Bittner of Creston, Ia., Harry Bittner, Joliet; four sisters, Mrs. Frank Erskine, Lincoln, Nebr.; Miss Barbara Bittner of this city; Mrs. Gus Haefner, Cedar Falls, Ia.; Mrs. Peter Barnickle of West Brooklyn, besides a large circle of other relatives and dear friends. His parents, four brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon from the home of Miss Barbara Bittner on West Twelfth St., Rev. A.W. Engelbrecht, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, officiating. Interment will be made in the Restland Cemetery.
